History In 1973, in response to a need in the community, a manse was purchased and the garage converted to serve as the church. By 1974, church services were held in the garage, Sunday school in the bedrooms, the creche in the kitchen, and by the end of the year there were about 354 members and adherents! It was then known as the Birchleigh United Church. In 1977 two stands were bought in Norkem Park and plans drawn up for a church building, and in 1978 the new church complex was opened. We then became known as Trinity United Church. In 1986 work began on the extensions to the church, the plans calling for a youth room, a chapel, offices and a large foyer. This work was done largely by the members, working on Saturdays and doing so with money in hand - no loan was taken! In 1988 the Sunday school now consolidated itself at Norkem Park Primary, with the branch at Birch Acres being incorporated there as well. The extensions to the church were completed in 1989 at a cost of R125,000 and no dept! An incredible effort and act of faith! Various staff and ministers have come and gone during the years, and we are indebted to all of them. Our Sunday school is now held at Trinity and no longer at the local school, and in 1994 the final payment on the original building's loan was made, leaving the church debt free in terms of the church itself..
